How to Generate Content Ideas
People are always coming up with ideas, whether it’s before sleep while going to work, or doing sports like running. Basically, humans’ ability to generate new ideas is endless. However, if your job depends on it, the process can be tricky. So, I have some advice for you on how to generate content ideas.
First, we have to know where ideas come from. ”
James Webb Young,” an American advertising executive, published a short book in 1940 called “A Technique for Producing Ideas.”
Young adopted the proposition that “an idea is nothing more nor less than a new combination of old elements.” So,
Young says the next: “Read anything, anytime, whatever the basic, old or new, good or bad, popular or not, and not just marketing content. Read history, science, poetry, let it all seep into your mind, and you will be surprised what will come of it.
”
Coming to the advice, there are two ways to generate content ideas: you can do this by yourself or with a group.
By yourself:
Answer these 4 questions to help build your content ideas:
1. What are your buyer personas’ reading habits?
2. What are your competitors doing?
3. What are people talking about on Quora’s “Trend”?
4. How can you learn from your SEO tools?
With a group:
Brainstorming can be an incredibly productive way to generate fresh and creative content ideas. You can invite team members who are a little away from the content creation, and you will get different perspective ideas. Another way is the “Agenda Way.” Pick someone to moderate and set clear agenda items, which could include the following:
– What’s the problem?
– How long does it take to solve it?
– Rules of engagement to solve it, etc.
Within the group, if you orient the conversation and apply the engagement rules, then the ideas will spread easily within the group, and anyone can share his/her ideas.
Finally, remember that the main goal is to generate new and unexpected ideas. It may take time and effort, but it will be productive in the end. So now you have a process to help you generate content ideas. Keep it in your mind as a content ideation process
